9396 Water Distribution Exam Prep Class I

At the end of this workshop, students will be prepared to write the certification exams as noted above. By the end of the course students will know the following:
- Be familiar with the public health issues associated with the operation of a water distribution system, including testing and water quality parameters
- Know units of expression and basic math skills required for the operation of a water distribution system
- Understand basic hydraulic concepts such as rates of flow, pressure, and head
- Understand basic electrical concepts
- Know personal health and safety procedures and the equipment required to safely operate a water distribution system
- Know and identify the basic components of a water distribution system including the raw water source and its characteristics, indicators of water quality, the intake structures or well construction, conveyance structures, and appurtenances
- To know and understand the normal operations of a distribution system including volumes and velocities, base flow, peak flow, average day flow and fire flow
- To know and understand the concept of storage in a water distribution system and how it works
- To know and understand the concept of pressure control within a water distribution system
- To know and understand disinfection methods and when they may be required within a distribution system
- To know and understand various preventative measures such as corrosion control, leak detection, excavation and repair and thawing procedures
- To know and understand the value of good record-keeping, emergency response planning, security and public relations.
