Human Resources Intern

Location: Brantford 

The Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC) is a nonprofit organization that provides technical advisory services, training, and capacity development to First Nations communities in Ontario.  By offering a wide range of specialized services and expertise, OFNTSC helps to enhance the quality of life, promote self-sufficiency, and foster economic growth within these communities. 

As a Human Resources Intern, you will support our Human Resources (HR) Department in day-to-day operations. You will assist the HR Department in completing various tasks, including, but not limited to, recruitment, orientation, employee engagement, employee training and development, and off-boarding.

These tasks must be executed in alignment with the culture and values of OFNTSC while maintaining strict confidentiality.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparing and maintaining human resource records, including personnel files, and ensuring their accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality.
  • Assist with validating and maintaining personnel information and employee records through HRMS (Bamboo HR) and other systems (HR Downloads).
  • Support HR-related functions, including recruitment, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and off-boarding procedures.
  • Manage recruitment efforts and maintain connections for job fairs and job postings.
  • Ensure the secure handling and storage of confidential documents and records.
  • Assists with OFNTSC employee engagement and recognition initiatives.
  • Research HR practices, policies, and procedures to support OFNTSC HR Department compliance and reporting activities.
    Other duties as needed and assigned by the HR manager.

Qualifications:

  • Completed the first year of a Bachelor's Degree or College Diploma in Business, Human Resources, or a similar field with plans to continue.
  • Previous experience working in a Human Resource Department is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Google Suites, Excel, HRIS, and HRMS is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with an Indigenous organization and culture is an asset.

Conditions:

  • Applicants must be between 15 and 30 and a Status First Nation or Inuit person. This requirement is in place to fulfill the funding agreement, which aims to support and promote employment within First Nations and Inuit communities. 
  • Reliable, insured vehicle and Valid Class G Ontario driver’s license would be preferable. 
  • Ability to work from Brantford during working business hours Monday – Friday 8:30 – 4:30.
