OFNTSC Joins Caldwell First Nation for DMAF Announcement, Celebrating Dyke Rehabilitation Project

Last week, the Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC) had the privilege of attending the official Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund (DMAF) announcement for Caldwell First Nation’s Dyke Rehabilitation Project, held on August 28th in Leamington, Ontario. The event took place at the project site, symbolizing a significant step forward in the protection and sustainability of the Caldwell First Nation's lands.

The announcement brought together a host of distinguished guests, including Chief Mary Duckworth of Caldwell First Nation, Leamington Mayor Hilda Macdonald, Windsor-Essex MP Irek Kusmierczyk, and Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development, representing the Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, and Communities, Sean Fraser. The Essex Region Conservation Authority was also represented by Tim Byrne, among others.

OFNTSC was represented by Drew Hill, Tricia Hamilton, and Destiny Soney, underscoring our ongoing commitment to supporting First Nations communities through critical infrastructure projects. Drew spoke on behalf of OFNTSC, highlighting the strong working relationship we have established with Caldwell First Nation and the essential services we provide to ensure the success and sustainability of such initiatives.

The Dyke Rehabilitation Project is a vital undertaking for Caldwell First Nation, aiming to protect the community from flooding and ensure the safety and resilience of their lands for future generations. The event marked an important milestone, celebrating the collaboration between First Nations, local governments, and federal partners in achieving a shared vision of environmental stewardship and disaster preparedness.
