What Does Housing Service Offer?

The Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC) offers a wide variety of services to Ontario First Nations and tribal councils. The OFNTSC’s Fire and Safety Service works with communities and tribal councils to provide:

  • Training and capacity development: building code, better building practices, energy efficiency including R-2000, EnerGuide, Energy Star, and Energy Advisor
  • Housing policy review and analysis
  • Building code interpretation and advice
  • Assistance in research and development of business plans for housing, and funding proposals
  • Technical Support: AFN Chief’s technical committee on housing and the Ontario First Nations Steering Committee on Housing

Services offered by the OFNTSC are free of charge to First Nations and tribal councils in Ontario. Please note that there maybe costs associated to attend training sessions, conferences and symposiums. Contact us today, to see how we can assist you.

The OFNTSC’s Housing Service will be working on these priorities for the next fiscal year:

  • Building code training (housing training schedule based on needs of First Nation clients, targeted to First Nations looking to become certified with Ontario Building Officers Association)
  • Training: CMHC workshops (expected standing offer to work with CMHC to continue workshops for First Nations)
  • Training: Natural Resources Canada (examine training opportunities related to energy efficiency for First Nations)
  • Training: First Nations Market Housing Fund (FNMHF) (expected standing offer to work with FNMHF First Nations who are participating in the FNMHF
  • Housing policy development (make accessible and usable housing policy documents)
  • Northern Housing Conference Working Group

Committee Participation: AFN Chief’s technical committee on housing and the Ontario First Nations Steering Committee on Housing.
